6 Weeks Down! 14 to Go!

Stuart and I were talking the other day about how long it's seemed since we last saw each other. Hard to believe it's only been 6 weeks. We still have 3 more before my trip out there for 8 whole days. By God's strength, we'll make it. Not easy in the least being apart from the one you love and when you're planning a wedding, it's even harder. While there are certain aspects of a long-distance relationship that I feel are beneficial for a couple, I don't recommend it in the long run.

Anyway, this past week has been quite productive. We:

* found a DJ and hired him (was very impressed with his knowledge, samples and demonstration)
* got 2 more men measured for tuxes
* changed the tux style since the original one didn't look right; too baggy and not classy enough
* picked up 2 bridesmaid dresses
* selected the pattern for the flower girl's dress and learned that her grandmother would be sewing it
* FINALLY organized all my wedding papers and receipts and information into an "accordian" file for ease of access
* began entering information into my wedding planner guide
* began search for restaurant locations for a rehearsal dinner and ruled out a few; will search again this week
* put in a request for a block of rooms at a slightly upscale local hotel for the out-of-town wedding guests and family
* had an intitial pre-marital counseling meeting to set up the first meeting with Stuart and me both and laid out the tentative plan for the wedding

Now that all the major things are done, we're down to the nitty-gritty details. I know I better find something else to occupy my time, or I'm gonna start wondering why we pushed back the wedding date so far. *winks*

Sounds like things are moving along nicely. I had to chuckle when you said, "began entering information into my wedding planner guide". I tried using mine, but it was just one more thing to do. But, I did use some of it and I still use it to check people's addresses now and then.

Good luck on your trip to CS. Have lots of fun!

Yep, Tiff's got things well in hand.

Meanwhile I'm starting work on figuring things out for her trip here in May. Figuring out where to go, when to go there, and all that stuff.

Plus figuring out the finer details of when to finally get that sparkly thing onto her finger. :)

Of course my planning pales in comparison to Tiff's. I'm really going to have to pamper her to make up for all the work she's doing.

You sound like a real prince, Stuart. I was lucky to find one of those too.

Good luck to both of you!

LOL, Cheryl. Yeah, notice I said "began" which means I'm far from it being fully organized.

As for my trip to CS, I *will* have a lot of fun. It appears as if I'm set up for a nice pampering session that week. :)

And yes, Stuart is a true prince. Full of surprises that just get better every day.

LOL! Y'all are making me chuckle!

Stuart, the pampering's always worth it! It gets you lots of brownie points, so keep it in mind for the future years. ;-) And of course, "sparkly things" never hurt either! LOL!

Tiff, you've got a good one if he's planning your trip for you. Sounds like he wants to make the most of the time you have together! And, uh, my hubby and I had to wait 8 months to get married. Longest 8 months of my life. (I could tell you what the longest 9 months was, too. LOL!)

I hope your pre-marital councelling goes well. Mine was a nightmare and anytime I hear those words, I get this sick feeling in my stomach. But, my mother-in-law said she enjoyed hers so much, they did it twice! LOL!

I'm loving this play-by-play of your wedding plans! Thanks for sharing.

Hehe, eight months...yeah, that seems like an eternity. I originally suggested October to Stuart, but he said he didn't want to wait that long. :) Then, when we started backing it up and looking at everything else we had planned for the year, the time got less and less.

At first, I was hesitant about the narrow time window, but now I'm anxious to get started with my new life...and even wishing we'd set it closer. But all things for a reason and a season. Before we know it, we'll be married and wonder what life was like without each other.

That is so true! We had to wait the 8 months because his brother and my good friend (now married to his brother) were away on a music tour. They were part of our wedding party so...*shrug*

My brother and his wife were married exactly 2 months and 1 day after being engaged. LOL! That's quick. But they were happy. :-)

Sounds like you have everything under control Tiff. You are doing great! You sound so organized.

Shauna, it is a shame you had a negative premarital counseling session. Mine was very positive and I enjoyed it. I assumed everone had great ones but I guess it depends on who you are assigned to. The couple we had were wonderful and they were people I already knew and liked from being involved with the church in so many activities. I feel blessed to have had them.

Cherie,

Our councelling was done by the pastor and it was just us. There were no other couples involved. Yeah, I still get sick to my stomach if I think back to that time. My mom asked me if I would consider doing the premarital councelling again with someone else, a close family friend we trusted, but I refused. The thought alone brought on the beginnings of a panic attack.

It's funny, 'cause most people really enjoy it. Oh well. I've been ecstatically married for almost 8 years now! :-)

Cherie, the operative word is I "sound" so organized. LOL! If you only saw the stack of wedding stuff strewn in my office or the bags of craft supplies and materials for decorations and favors covering the floor...you might think differently. :)

As for counseling, I've heard both good and bad. It all depends on the pastor or person leading the sessions. My parents never had it and they've been married for 35 years, still going strong. So Shauna, if your marriage is strong, leave it be. :)

For Stuart and me, I know it will be good because I value Pastor Chris' input and wisdom.
